ASNEAA culminated Juneteenth 2022 weekend with CLP x Green-Wood- centering BIPOC narratives of social justice figures interred at the cemetery. This included Sarah Smith Garnet (first black woman principal in NYC), her sister Susan Smith McKinney Steward (first black woman doctor in NYC), James Weldon Johnson (activist and “Lift Every Voice and Sing”: Black National Anthem writer), and Jean Michel Basquiat (artist).
CLP x Green-Wood participants explored BIPOC narratives on-site via trolley tour and also engaged in arts as advocacy creative expression projects: CLP x Kindness Rocks Project (KRP), CLP paint canvas’, legacy bracelets, advocacy chalking, and a BIPOC heritage and monument suggestion board.
This event was in partnership with The Green-Wood Cemetery and arts as advocacy creative expression projects were sponsored by Blick Arts Materials (s/o to Amie and the Downtown Brooklyn location!)
