This election cycle was indeed the full spectrum of America on the ballot. And in light of ALL the reflection that Emancipation Day and Diwali provided (literally and figuratively)- ASNEAA decided a dreamer don’t quit on themselves! The “community advocacy is civic engagment” energy culminated with CLP x Election Day @ Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Talk about dreams coming true! It was so surreal- I would be remiss to not acknowledge the Universe and God for the guidance. Before I knew historic preservation was thing or developed a Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) lens- I was just a kid from Brooklyn. Like many people who grew up here- this city feels like the world to me. There are landmarks- such as the Brooklyn Bridge– that symbolize so much of who I am; including creator + board secretary of ASNEAA.
So in another momtrepreneur moment- CLP x Election Day was the signing of the ASNEAA Emancipation Proclamation in service to social justice and human rights advocacy. Tucked away in the corner across from Jane’s Carousel @ Brooklyn Bridge Park– CLP x Election Day participants were invited to share their BIPOC heritage, make legacy bracelets and play the BIPOC heritage timeline game! Of course- we also had ASNEAA swag on deck (literally and figuratively):
Then the magic of the moment (with the perfect backdrop) happened- as CLP x Election Day participants celebrated our democracy + diversity:
CLP x Election Day was a reminder- that no matter the outcome at the polls, it’s the people that move the city (and country + world). s/o to New Zealand- ASNEAA missed it on the BIPOC Heritage banner; proof of my humanity and that there’s always work to do. Here’s to the business of social justice!
Thank you to CLP x Election Day sponsors and participants:
